KOTA KINABALU: A Sabahan tourist, Joanne Kok Yz, shared an eye-opening experience on Facebook after Shanghai police helped her recover a stolen phone in under 15 minutes during her trip to China.
The incident happened on her final day in the city, just before heading to the airport on Thursday.
While shopping at a departmental store, Joanne’s phone was stolen by an elderly woman who later travelled more than 50 kilometres away.
“The shop manager immediately reported the case, and in less than 15 minutes, police officers arrived at the store despite the long walk from the entrance to where we were,” she recounted.
Within the next 20 minutes, officers conducted an interview, reviewed CCTV footage, and reported the case to their headquarters.
Authorities then tracked the suspect’s contact number, called her directly, and instructed her to return the phone.
“Thanks to the efficiency of the police, what might have ruined my trip instead became a story of trust, professionalism, and respect,” Joanne wrote.
