KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah Cabinet has approved a Group Insurance Scheme offering free personal accident coverage to approximately 3.5 million Sabahans, said State Finance Minister Datuk Seri Masidi Manjun (pic) on Wednesday.

The coverage, available to those aged one month to 80 years, will be provided automatically through state-owned Progressive Insurance Bhd.

Beneficiaries will be entitled to up to RM10,000 in accident protection and an additional RM500 in death benefit at no cost.

The scheme will run for an initial period of three years, from May 1 this year to April 30, 2028.

Claims will be processed efficiently, with payouts made within 14 to 30 days upon submission of complete documentation, as part of the government’s effort to ease the financial burden on the people, especially the B40 group.
