Sabahans urged to witness 40pc entitlement appeal

Kota Kinabalu: Nominated Assemblyman Datuk Roger Chin has urged Sabahans to attend the Court of Appeal hearing of the Federal Government’s appeal over Sabah’s constitutional 40 per cent entitlement on Oct 29.

He said the hearing, scheduled for 9am at the Kota Kinabalu Court Complex, would be made accessible to up to 250 members of the public through a closed-circuit audiovisual transmission at the conference hall.

Chin said the arrangement would provide wider public access to the proceedings, following previous hearings where only a limited number of people could be accommodated inside the courtroom.

He said the appeal arose from the High Court’s Oct 17, 2025 decision in judicial review proceedings brought by the Sabah Law Society, with the Federal Government appealing part of the decision concerning the years 1974 to 2021.

“The outcome will be determined by the Court according to the Constitution and the law, and the independence, dignity and authority of the judicial process must be respected fully,” he said in a statement on Tuesday.
