SABAR sets up E-Archives with Borneo History

Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Action Body Advocating Rights (Sabar) launched its E-Archives for the benefit of its life members to access Sabah’s historical documents on Saturday Jan 4 at E-West Hall here in collaboration with Borneo History Research Centre under Borneo History Resources.

Borneo History Resources President Shari Jeffri said that some 5,000 Sabah Archives Department files were lost to fire in the past, and his organisation was able to retrieve many duplicates of the lost North Borneo administration documents besides other Sabah-related historical files from the National Archives and other depositories in the United Kingdom.

Advertisement“We have established a methodology on how to discover back these documents,” Shari said of his efforts for the last two decades as a private researcher in managing to bring back all the relevant documents.

The Borneo History Research Centre provides on-line document viewing access for Sabar E-Archives. Shari presented a List and Indexes Record Book (pic) to the Chairman of the Registered Trustees of Sabah Action Body Advocating Rights, Datuk Zainie Abdul Aucasa. Read more As a leading advocate for Sabah’s rights, Zainie said the E-Archives would be helpful in Sabar’s research efforts from the availability of accurate historical information, particularly on the formation of Malaysia, with Sabah being a partner in nation building.

“Our mission is to be the leading advocate for Sabah rights through comprehensive research and education of our history and to work together with other stakeholders to build a just society that respects all human rights,” he said.

Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});This will enhance awareness of Malaysia Agreement 1963 and related documents for Sabar to disseminate information including on its ongoing legal case pertaining to pursuing Sabah’s rights under the Continental Shelf Act 1966, he added.

Zainie said that Sabar, as a non-political and non-religious entity, aims to create public awareness through education on the historical aspect of the formation of Malaysia as a Federation.

He said Sabar will take affirmative action, including legal action, to pursue the rights of Sabah pursuant to the Malaysia agreement 1963, as well as to support and complement the government’s initiatives to promote and encourage unity, harmony, equality and social justice in Sabah and in Malaysia.
