Kota Kinabalu: Putatan captured the Kota Kinabalu zone Safa (Sabah Football Association) Cup football tournament title on Sunday.
They topped the four-team group with a perfect record after beating Tuaran 1-0 in the final match held at the Sukma field.
They had earlier beaten Kota Kinabalu 1-0 in the opening tie followed by a 2-0 win over Penampang on the second day.
Only the top two teams qualified for the grand finals to be held from January 23-27 here in Kota Kinabalu, and Penampang made the cut after defeating Kota Kinabalu 1-0 in their final match to finish in second spot with four points from one win, one draw and one loss.

Organising chairman Matasan Ahmad was pleased that the three-day competition was held smoothly without any incidents.
He expressed his gratitude to Safa president Datuk Shahelmey Yahya and local competition committee chairman cum Safa vice president Datuk Seri Dr Ruddy Awah.
Meanwhile, a total of 21 teams with more than 500 players were involved in the zone tournament held simultaneously in Kota Kinabalu, Kinabatangan, Beaufort, Kunak, Keningau and Kota Marudu since Friday.
Ruddy, who initiated the tournament, had earlier said the aim was to select players from the Under-23, 20 and 18 age groups to form teams in preparation for this season’s MFL Cup, the President Cup and Youth Cup tournaments.
