Kota Kinabalu: Sabah Football Association (Safa) has finally set March 11 as the new date to launch their football academy.
The ceremony to be held at the Safa football field here will be officiated by Deputy Chief Minister cum Public Works Minister Datuk Shahelmy Yahya.
Safa assistant secretary general Azman Mastar, who made the announcement on Monday, said the academy was supposed to launch earlier but had to be postponed due to unforeseen circumstances.
“All preparations are being done and we are at the moment finalising some details before the launch,” he said.
He said the idea of establishing the academy catering for players under the age of 16 is Safa’s long term plan to develop football in the State. “We believe that with the establishment of the academy we will be able to guide the youth players to gain more exposure in addition to preparing themselves to become better players in the future,” said Azman, who is also Safa local competition committee chairman.
Meanwhile, he also expressed his gratitude to Asian Supply Base Sdn Bhd in Labuan for allowing a study tour by the Safa committee members from February 24-26 where a friendly football match will also be held.
