Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Football Association (Safa) Academy is set to be launched by Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Seri Bung Moktar Radin in a groundbreaking ceremony before the nomination day (November 5) on a piece of land in Kinabatangan owned by Safa Kinabatangan.

Assistant secretary general of Safa Azman Mastar said the academy with him as director will cater for players under the ages of 12, 14 and 16, and every district in the State will follow suit with their own academy.

“The Safa academy is part of the association’s plan to develop football in Sabah and has been planned since the beginning of this year.

“All Safa districts from the eight zones are expected to form their own respective academies soon after.

“I believe through the cooperation from the district associations with the certified and experienced coaches available, it will ensure that the development programme through this academy will be successful and achieves its goals,” he said after chairing the launch committee meeting at the Safa office here on Thursday.

Also present were Safa executive secretary David Wisom and Safa technical director Omar Maya Amat.
