KUALA LUMPUR – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) has launched its Safe Internet Campaign (Kempen Internet Selamat - KIS) in Sabah, marking a strategic shift from solely expanding internet access to promoting ethical and responsible use of the digital space.
Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil officiated the campaign today at SMK St. Mary, Limbahau, Papar.
In a statement, MCMC said the initiative was not merely about increasing internet coverage but also about ensuring that users, particularly the younger generation, navigate the digital space safely, ethically, and responsibly.
The campaign, driven under the Malaysia MADANI framework, adopts a “whole-of-nation” approach that brings together schools, teachers, parents and local authorities in creating a more secure digital environment for all Malaysians.
Among the key components of the programme were interactive sessions on online safety, digital ethics, and hands-on training for teachers aimed at equipping them to better guide students through the challenges of the digital world.

The move comes as MCMC expands its outreach across the country, calling on communities from rural kampungs to urban centres to embrace digital responsibility as a shared national effort.
“In the digital age, the internet is more than a communication tool. It’s a space that shapes values, spreads knowledge, and brings people together. Let’s make sure that space is safe, constructive and inclusive for generations to come,” the commission said in a statement.
Also present were Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Mohamad Fauzi Md Isa and MCMC Chief of State Affairs Tuan Haji Bukhari Yahya.
The campaign in Sabah is expected to pave the way for similar initiatives across other regions, as the ministry intensifies its push to embed digital responsibility into the nation’s cyber culture. - July 23, 2025
