
COMMUNICAATIONS Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil, officiated the Northern Region Safe Internet Campaign (Kempen Internet Selamat, KIS) today at Sekolah Kebangsaan Ulu Melaka, Langkawi, in a bid to strengthen online safety awareness and foster a resilient digital community.
Organised by the Ministry of Communications through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the event saw the participation of over 1,800 individuals, including students from 22 schools, educators, parents, community leaders and representatives from various stakeholder agencies.
The campaign is part of an ongoing initiative to enhance digital literacy, particularly among children and adolescents, in addressing the risks of cyberbullying, online scams, gambling and the sexual exploitation of minors.
Throughout the year, more than 100,000 participants from the Northern Region, comprising Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak, are expected to be involved in the programme.
Among the key activities are briefing sessions and interactive Internet Safety Modules tailored for children under the age of 13, educational modules for teachers and parents, a Choral Speaking competition themed around Internet Safety, and the ‘Menu Viral’ contest which promotes the practice of ‘3S’ or Semak Sebelum Sebar, (Verify Before Sharing).
