According to a report in Aero-News Journal, the pilots, adhering to safety protocols, quickly assessed the situation and made the decision to turn back to Manila rather than continue the journey with a compromised aircraft.

It was earlier reported that flight MH705 a scheduled international flight from Manila, Philippines, to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, turned back after one of its engine caught fire following a bird strike.
The Boeing 737-800, which typically operates this route with a flight duration of approximately four hours, was forced to return to the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) yesterday afternoon after reports emerged of an engine fire.
According to Aero-News, preliminary reports suggest that the problem may have been triggered by a bird strike, a known hazard in aviation that can lead to engine malfunctions.
In this case, the suspected strike is believed to have caused a failure in the left engine, resulting in flames and smoke emanating from the affected area.
