PUTATAN: About 1,800 registered fishermen in the district require political stability to sustain their development, said Sabah Fish Marketing Sdn Bhd (Safma) deputy chairman Mohd Isquzawan Israq.
Isquzawan said Safma aims to establish landing zones for large fishing vessels as part of its long-term strategy.
The Kota Kinabalu Fishermen's Association (KKFA), Permodalan Capital Berhad, and Kopusamaju Cooperative recorded RM1.3 million in profits in 2024.
Jetties have been successfully constructed in Kampung Pasir Putih, Contoh, and Petagas, with plans to expand to Kampung Ketiau and Lembising.
Isquzawan made these remarks at a breaking-of-fast event, where 50 underprivileged fishermen received tithe aid.
