SAILPOINT and Amazon Web Services (AWS) have signed a multiyear agreement to develop a unified system for managing digital identities as artificial intelligence adoption accelerates.

The collaboration aims to address security risks tied to the growing use of AI agents, which increasingly act on behalf of users, applications and systems. These agents introduce new forms of nonhuman identities that organizations must monitor and control.

Through the agreement, the companies plan to build a governance layer designed to manage both human and machine identities across cloud environments, enforce access policies and maintain oversight as AI-driven workloads scale.

“The proliferation of AI agents is creating a new class of nonhuman identities, and each one represents a new attack surface,” said SailPoint CEO Mark McClain.

The initiative will focus on consolidating identity oversight across applications, data, machines and AI systems, with the goal of shifting from static permissions to continuous governance.

Key features under development include lifecycle management for identities, real-time enforcement of least-privilege access and a unified view of relationships between systems and users. Automated controls are also expected to adjust or revoke access based on risk or behavioral changes.

The integration is expected to extend to AWS tools for building AI agents, allowing organizations to treat these agents as governed identities within a single system. This would enable monitoring, access reviews and policy enforcement alongside human users.

“Agentic AI is unlocking opportunities for growth and innovation across all industries,” said Keshav Narsipur, vice president for AWS identity and access management.

The agreement also includes plans to expand the availability of identity security tools through AWS Marketplace, as both companies seek to accelerate adoption of cloud-based identity platforms.
