Salad and Go announces closure of all stores – here’s why

• Drive-thru chain Salad and Go is set to close all 70 of its stores in Arizona and Nevada after filing for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.
• CEO Mike Tattersfield said the stores would serve their final customers on August 5, adding: “We are proud of what we built together and grateful to every team member, guest and partner who believed in it.”​
• The company was unable to cope with rising costs, growth challenges and pressure on consumer demand, while a statement said that the recent cyclospora outbreak also compounded the challenges faced by the chain, despite it not being implicated in the outbreak.
• Founded in 2013, Salad and Go had served over 60 million meals, with a mission to “make fresh food available to all”, a spokesperson said.
• Separately, Sysco, the largest US food distributor, has halted purchases of iceberg lettuce from Mexico due to the cyclosporiasis outbreak, according to CEO Kevin ⁠Hourican.
