The Delhi Government on Tuesday approved a significant salary hike for vocational teachers and those working under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, with Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stating that the move aims to boost morale and recognise their contribution to the education sector.
The decision, taken at a Cabinet meeting, will benefit around 1,131 vocational teachers and educators working at 784 centres under the Samagra Shiksha Abhiyan, including Special Training Centres that cater to out-of-school children.
Announcing the hike, Gupta said vocational teachers who provide skill-based training will now receive Rs 38,100 per month, a sharp increase from the earlier Rs 20,000-Rs 23,000 range. Similarly, salaries of Samagra Shiksha teachers have been raised from Rs 21,000 to Rs 35,420 per month, bringing them on a par with primary and upper primary teachers.
“This is not just a financial decision, but a recognition of the dedication and hard work of teachers who operate in challenging conditions to bring children into the fold of education,” the Chief Minister said.
She said the move was expected to improve financial security for teachers and enhance the quality of education delivery. “Motivated and satisfied teachers are key to delivering quality education,” Gupta noted.
The Chief Minister reiterated that ensuring no child is left out of the education system remains a top priority for the government. She highlighted the role of special training centres in bringing back children who have either dropped out or never attended school.
Such centres act as a lifeline for these children, and teachers play the most crucial role in reintegrating them into mainstream education, she said.
Gupta also pointed to ongoing efforts to strengthen these centres through better monitoring, parental counselling and improved inter-departmental coordination, adding that the government remains committed to reforms and innovation in the education sector.
