Samsung has made its latest entry-level smartphone official, the Galaxy A08. Appearing on Samsung’s regional websites with full specs but no formal launch event, this budget device is the successor to the Galaxy A07, packing a bigger battery, a high refresh rate display and a bit of durability into a wallet-friendly package.
Starting with its build, the Galaxy A08 keeps things simple with a 6.7-inch frame that measures 8mm thick and weighs 197g, offered in a choice of three colourways, namely Silver, Green and Dark Blue. It also carries an IP64 dust and water resistance rating, which isn’t always a given at this end of the market.
As for its display, you’ll find a 6.7-inch PLS LCD panel pushing an HD+ resolution of 720 x 1600 pixels, offering plenty of screen space for everyday activities such as browsing, watching videos and scrolling through social media.
Under the hood, Samsung does not specify the exact processor used in the Galaxy A08 on its official website, though the device is believed to be powered by the MediaTek Helio G99 system-on-chip. This is paired with 6GB of LPDDR5X memory and 128GB of storage, which can be expanded by up to 2TB via microSD. As for connectivity, the model currently listed supports 4G.
On the back, the Galaxy A08 comes with a main 50MP, f/1.8 shooter alongside a 2MP, f/2.4 depth sensor, while an 8MP, f/2.0 selfie camera sits up front in a U-shaped notch. Both the front and rear cameras support up to 1080p video recording.
The battery is perhaps the main reason this one might appeal, with its large 6,000mAh cell, a 1,000mAh bump over the Galaxy A07 that should comfortably see lighter users through more than a day on a single charge.
On the software support front, Samsung is also promising up to six major OS upgrades for the Galaxy A08, along with up to six years of security updates, continuing the company’s long-term software support commitment across its newer Galaxy A-series devices.
As for pricing and availability, Samsung has yet to announce its official price or release date in Malaysia. Stay tuned for more details on its local availability.
