The pioneer of foldable smartphones, Samsung, after holding back for so long when its competitors are running around with triple-screen foldables, has officially announced the Galaxy Z TriFold to try and take that market back into its hands.
Instead of the usual single fold, this one folds twice and expands up to 10 inches for a mini tablet-like screen estate, and through the combination of the brand’s experience in design, manufacturing, and quality control, this phone is just 3.9mm thin at the thinnest point.
They also reworked the engineering part where the updated Armor FlexHinge uses two differently sized hinges to smooth out the folding motion, reduce gaps, and keep the panels aligned. Additionally, there’s a strengthened dual-fold display layer, a titanium hinge housing to handle long-term wear, and a rigid Advanced Armor Aluminum frame that prevents the screens from touching. Even the back panel uses ceramic-glass reinforced polymer to stay thin but durable.
And of course, you can run 3 apps at once, rearrange windows freely, review documents vertically, or jump between apps using the taskbar. Samsung DeX is built right in without needing an external monitor, letting you run up to four workspaces with five apps each. If you do want a second screen, Extended Mode turns the TriFold into a dual-display setup, and you can still pair a Bluetooth keyboard and mouse for a more desktop-like workflow.
For the Galaxy AI part, details are currently limited, but we expect it to come with a bit more stuff that is either exclusively for tri-screen usage or bringing existing things with optimized UI/UX.
