Samsung has officially launched two new mid-range smartphones in Galaxy A57 and Galaxy A37, and as usual, we’re looking at minor refreshes across the board (with more AI features, like Voice Transcription, AI Select, Object Erase, yada yada). Here’s what to expect from the new lineup.
Galaxy A57

The Samsung Galaxy A57 now packs Samsung’s in-house Exynos 1680 chipset, which features one more Performance core in exchange for one less Efficiency core over Exynos 1580 found in Galaxy A56, forming 1X+4P+3E cores; the Xclipse 550 GPU, meanwhile, is 16% faster, and Samsung claims it’s got a 13% larger vapor chamber to keep the entire chipset cool. The smartphone also gains a new 512GB storage option.
For its camera, the Galaxy A57 stuck with the same configuration comprising a primary 50MP shooter (with a new ISP), alongside a 12MP ultrawide and a 5MP macro sensor. Samsung claims improved “Nightography” and noise reduction, plus HDR video support. There’s also “AI-based subject recognition” involved in the processing, mostly for achieving more natural colors and accurate focus effects.
Other upgrades include Wi-Fi 6E support, slightly narrower bezel, reduced weight and profile (down to 179g and 6.9mm), plus improved IP68 ingress protection. Running OneUI 8.5 right out of the box, the Galaxy A57 is eligible for six generations of Android / OneUI upgrades, as well as six years of security updates.
Galaxy A37

The Samsung Galaxy A37 gets a more drastic switch in its chipset, from the Galaxy A36’s Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 to it’s in-house Exynos 1480 that already powers the Galaxy A55 from two years ago. This means faster CPU cores, and a switch to Xclipse 530 GPU for gaming; like the Galaxy A57, it comes with OneUI 8.5 and will be provided with six years’ worth of OS and security updates.
There’s much less changes outside of the chipset switch when compared to its direct predecessor, so here’s the known upgrades: updated 50MP sensor, improved IP68 water and dust resistance, and not much else. Even the chassis is unchanged, so consider this a very minor update for Samsung’s A3x line of midrange entries.
Pricing

The Galaxy A57 5G is available in Awesome Navy, Awesome Gray and Awesome IcyBlue, with the 12+256GB costing RM2,399, whilst the 12+512GB is priced at RM2,699. Meanwhile, the Galaxy A37 5G is offered in Awesome Lavender, Awesome Charcoal and Awesome GrayGreen, priced at RM1,899 for the 8+256GB model and RM1,999 for the 12+256GB model.
Pokdepinion: Pretty boring updates, but that’s the reality with most smartphones these days.
