SANDAKAN: The problem of stray dogs here needs to be tackled by the relevant authorities accordingly to avoid anything untoward, said Elopura Assemblyman Calvin Chong.

He said this after visiting a seven-year-old who was bitten by a stray dog while on his way home with his mother at PPR Taman Harmoni, Wednesday.

He said this was the third case to happen in Elopura.

The first case was in Taman Matahari and the second in PPR Taman Mesra Sandakan.

The victim was walking when he was bitten by the stray dog.

“I will complain about this to the health unit of the Sandakan Municipal Council (MPS) because this area is under their responsibility,” he said.

“Every month the residents here pay their monthly bills but there were no security guards or those responsible for taking care of stray animals, not only stray dogs, including cats, lizards and others that can threaten the safety of residents in Taman Harmoni,” he added.

He said he would also bring the problem up in the upcoming State Assembly sitting.

Meanwhile, it was understood that previously, MPS was actively carrying out operations to catch stray dogs in several areas in the district.

It was implemented in stages in the area in the effort to reduce the presence of animals in public.
