SANDAKAN – A man in his 40s climbed to the roof of the four-storey Sejati Ujana Apartment at Mile 7 here about 8.30pm last night, where he has remained since then.

At press time, the man had been on the roof for more than 37 hours, without food or water.

The Sandakan Fire and Rescue Department had been on standby, making several attempts to rescue the man, but their efforts were futile.

It was understood that Jinjing, the man in question, was also persuaded by his family and friends to accept assistance from the firefighters.

However, he refused their help and chose to remain on the roof.

The firemen had also offered food and water to the man, but he only accepted the drink and refused to eat.

The police's special actions unit also attempted to persuade the man to come down but failed.

It is known that the man is a resident of the Sejati Ujana Apartment but the motive behind his actions remains unclear.

The Fire and Rescue Department and police have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
