
Kota Kinabalu: Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu were the joint overall champions in the 36th State Inter Affiliates tournament hosted by Sandakan District Tennis Association over the weekend.
Both teams accumulated the same total of 13 points from the five categories competed to top the tally followed by Lahad Datu in third with four points.
The hosts won three titles in the women, girls and boys categories which awarded three points each and another three points as runners-up in the men’s category with an additional one point for finishing third in the veteran.
Kota Kinabalu on the other hand, only managed to win two titles but the five points from the men’s category plus the three points in the veteran category, two points each in the boys and girls, and one point from the women’s category was enough to tie with Sandakan.

He praised Sandakan District Tennis Association for their ability to raise funds to host the tournament and called on other affiliates to follow their footsteps in looking for funds.
He said the State body is willing to help the affiliates but they must take the initiative first.
