KOTA KINABALU: Power supply in Sandakan has been fully restored following a disruption linked to the collapse of a transmission tower at Kampung Sarapung.

Sabah Electricity Chief Executive Officer Datuk Mohd Yaakob Jaafar said restoration work was carried out in stages since Saturday and supply was fully restored at 3.11pm on Sunday.

The incident occurred after a landslide dislodged a 275kV Kolopis-Segaliud transmission tower, causing widespread disruption across the East Coast.

Areas affected included Lahad Datu, Kinabatangan, Kunak, Semporna and Beluran, in addition to Sandakan.

Sabah Electricity deployed 27 generator sets to strategic locations including hospitals, police stations, fire stations and clinics in Telupid, Kinabatangan, Lahad Datu, Semporna and Tawau to minimise disruption.

A temporary Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower will be installed at the site to replace the fallen structure, with equipment containers having arrived at the location on Sunday afternoon.

Mohd Yaakob expressed his gratitude to consumers for their patience and thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor and the State Government for their support during the incident.
