SANDAKAN: The Hilltop water treatment plant here has resumed operations and restored water supply to residents after being non-functional for six months due to water source shortages.

Deputy Chief Minister cum Public Works Minister Datuk Shahelmey Yahya said affected areas, including Bandar Leila, Bandar Nam Tung, and Bandar Ramai-Ramai, are now receiving an uninterrupted water supply.

Shahelmey said this during a press conference on Wednesday after inspecting the construction site of the Sandakan water storage tanks near Taman Tshun Ngen.

He said the plant restarted operations as two of the district’s 10 boreholes provide between three and 3.5 million litres of water daily.

With the maintenance of boreholes seven and ten, the plant’s capacity could increase to four million litres per day, ensuring a better supply for users relying on the facility.
