
SANDAKAN: Vision School Sandakan excelled at the 2025 Borneo International Innovation and Creativity Competition (BIIC) held recently in Kuching, Sarawak.
The school team won five gold, two silver, seven bronze medals and two special awards at the event.
Advertisement (adsbygoogle = window.adsbygoogle || []).push({});The prestigious competition attracted over 650 participants from 15 countries, including Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, the United Arab Emirates, Turkmenistan and Egypt, making it one of the most competitive innovation platforms in Southeast Asia.
Vision School Sandakan also received the Fujairah Science Club Special Award during the competition.
The award was given in recognition of the excellent performance and teamwork demonstrated by the students and teachers throughout the competition.
The award was presented by Dr Saif AlMoaili, manager of the Fujairah Science Club from the United Arab Emirates (UAE).

The school principal, Chong Wei Ket, expressed his appreciation for the students’ achievements under the leadership of teacher Emily Chong Meng Yih, with assistance from teacher Jasmine Tan Soon Yean, as well as support from parents and the school community.

Under Emily’s leadership, and with the full support of teachers and parents, the school submitted 14 projects. 12 in the secondary school category, one in the primary school category, and one in the teacher category.
The outcome was something to be proud of. Vision School Sandakan came back from the BIICC in Sarawak with medals and awards.
He said the main goal was just to give students some exposure and experience, but the results they achieved were totally unexpected.
The students spent weeks brainstorming ideas, writing abstracts, and producing A0-sized posters for the first time. After school hours, they draughted scripts, practised presentations and enhanced their communication skills as well as teamwork.
Beyond winning medals, this experience has shaped the students into confident and visionary young innovators.
From the initial idea to presenting before an international panel of judges, the students have grown in character, critical thinking, and creativity.
This international recognition proves that Vision School excels not only in innovation and creativity but also in dedication, discipline, and teamwork on the global stage.
