SANDAKAN: A 19-year-old man was fined RM5,000 or five months’ jail in default by the Sandakan Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday for committing cyberbullying.

Magistrate Yong Ching Hong imposed the sentence after Muhammad Amrullah Mohd Asrul Affendi admitted to the offence committed on Aug 31.

The court heard that the complainant, a 21-year-old woman’s father, received from the accused a photo of his daughter and a four-second obscene video via WhatsApp.

The victim had never consented to her identity being shared, and the circulation of her personal details caused her distress, leading to a police report.

The accused was arrested on Sept 2 by the state Criminal Investigation Department and charged under Section 507E of the Penal Code, with Insp Nooraznie Bolalan prosecuting.
