MANILA, Philippines — The Sandiganbayan’s Third Division has denied former senator Ramon Revilla Jr.'s motion to be detained at a Philippine National Police (PNP) custodial facility.
Last month, the court committed him to the Quezon City Jail’s male dormitory.
The court said Revilla appealed to be transferred to a PNP facility to ensure his safety. The former senator said that confinement in the QC jail “would expose him to a significantly elevated risk of physical harm, harassment, or assassination.” However, the court said that there is no basis for Revilla's fears, saying the jail's security measures are sufficient to keep him and the other detainees safe.
Revilla and several other individuals are facing a case of malversation through falsification in connection with an alleged ghost project in Pandi, Bulacan.
