Sandringham royal horse event apologises for flying Confederate flag

  • A Confederate flag, widely recognised as a symbol of white supremacy and racism, was displayed during an evening supper at the Sandringham Horse Driving Trials on Saturday, an event held on the King’s estate.
  • Sophie, the Duchess of Edinburgh, was among the competitors at the royal horse event, which subsequently drew criticism for the presence of the controversial flag.
  • Organisers of the Challenge event issued a public apology on Facebook, stating they were "truly sorry" and acknowledged the "hurt and offence" the symbol represents, committing to prevent such an incident from recurring.
  • Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor was also reported to have attended the trials on Sunday, with an onlooker noting he "sneaked in and out" and seemed to avoid being seen publicly.
  • This rare public appearance by Andrew follows a security scare in May and his arrest in February on suspicion of misconduct in a public office, linked to allegations of passing sensitive information to Jeffrey Epstein.
