A sandwich-eating burglar was found eating in a victim’s kitchen after stealing their jewellery.
Costin Stan, 33, of HMP Moorland, was found by homeowners in Nottingham on their upstairs landing in November 2024. He asked for food and denied that he had broken into their flat to steal.
After the couple gave Stan a sandwich, they noticed jewellery had been taken from a bedroom drawer and alerted the police.
Police found Stan sitting in the kitchen, eating a sandwich. He was arrested for burglary, and investigations revealed that he had committed another break-in in the area 10 days earlier.
At Nottingham Crown Court on Wednesday (25 February), he was jailed for two years and eight months after pleading guilty to two counts of burglary.
