Sanusi’s apology puzzling, says Amirudin

PETALING JAYA – Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari today said he was “puzzled” why Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor apologised to the Selangor sultan though the Kedah menteri besar had said he did nothing wrong and claimed his statements were taken out of context.

However, the Selangor menteri besar said the lesson here is for everyone to be more careful when addressing the public.

“Well, finally, he apologised though he did not admit he was wrong... that’s funny. When we questioned him, he said he wanted to issue a statement, and then he apologised.

“It’s okay, let police conduct their investigations. We just have to be more careful,” said Amirudin after a PKR Youth event here.

He said the government had already cautioned against speaking about the 3Rs (race, religion, royalty) as this could be misunderstood and misinterpreted by others.

“So, we hope that especially during the coming state elections, everyone focuses on facts and data and how we can develop the respective states and the country,” he said.

Earlier today, Sanusi apologised to Selangor ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah over his statement regarding the appointment of the Selangor menteri besar.

Sanusi said he had sent an explanation letter (warkah) to the Selangor sultan on what he truly meant in his speech.

In a Facebook post, he claimed that his speech had been manipulated by Pakatan Harapan and Barisan Nasional.

Police had earlier confirmed opening an investigation paper on Sanusi regarding a statement under the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

Through a video clip that went viral which is believed to have been recorded when giving a ceramah, Sanusi is claimed to have belittled the appointment of Amirudin as Selangor menteri besar by the Selangor sultan. – The Vibes, July 15, 2023
