In the grand tradition of political revelations, Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor has finally given in to the relentless speculation and gossip by confirming, “Yes, I have a second wife.”
And with that, the whispers that have been swirling like the kampung's evening breeze were abruptly put to rest. But, of course, this isn’t just any announcement—this is a Sanusi announcement.
You have to admire the flair with which he handled the matter. Many would have nervously called a press conference, issued a statement through their spokesperson, or perhaps gone for a somber sit-down interview. Not Sanusi. No, he dropped the bombshell casually, during the handover of land grants at Felcra Belimbing, as if it was just another item on the agenda. "By the way, yes, I have a second wife. So what?"
This is the man who, with a wink and a grin, joked, “It's not an issue, I have two more quotas for a wife.”
Oh, yes, the beauty of Malaysian polygamy laws! While others might shy away from discussing their matrimonial ventures, Sanusi is out here calculating the remaining slots like he's trying to fill up a gin rummy card.
But this isn’t your usual love story. According to Sanusi, his first wife, Tok Puan Jusmalailani Jusoh, was the mastermind behind the entire arrangement.
In a plot twist worthy of a Netflix original, it was she who proposed the second marriage! Yes, dear readers, the man didn’t even have to pop the question himself. If there were a contest for "Most Supportive Spouse," Tok Puan Jusmalailani would surely be taking home the gold medal.
And let’s not forget the second wife, a police officer who specialises in explosives. Now, if you’re going to marry a second time, why not someone who literally handles dynamite for a living?
It’s a metaphorical match made in heaven. She’s also a single mother from Kedah, so Sanusi gets a bonus point for that heartwarming "blending families" narrative.
Of course, the rumor mill had been working overtime, with people suggesting that his new bride was somehow involved in the rare earth element (REE) investigation.
But Sanusi, ever the storyteller, clarified that she wasn’t part of the REE case but had been investigating explosives found at his official residence. So, no REE connection—just a typical boy-meets-girl-over-some-explosives tale.
And let’s take a moment to appreciate his philosophical musings: “Love after marriage is more beautiful than love before marriage.”
This nugget of wisdom, delivered in the same breath as his request for privacy, really ties the whole announcement together. Who knew that in addition to being a Menteri Besar and husband (twice over), Sanusi was also a part-time philosopher?
But, of course, the humour isn't lost on us. Sanusi's announcement, while full of charm and wit, might leave a few jaws on the floor. But he’s already moved on, shrugging off the gossip and hinting that the public needs to find something else to talk about. After all, there are still two more “quotas” to fill, and that could be an entirely different press conference.
For now, though, let’s all sit back, admire the smoothness of his delivery, and wait for the next chapter in the Sanusi saga.
