KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has officially withdrawn from Perikatan Nasional (PN) following a decision made during its Supreme Council meeting on Nov 23, with PN headquarters informed of this decision last month.

SAPP cited PN’s intention to contest in the upcoming state elections as the key reason for its withdrawal, opposing PN’s stance as it conflicts with the party’s policy that all 73 state constituencies should be contested solely by local Sabah parties.

AdvertisementThe party reaffirmed its commitment to the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) and Sabah’s autonomy, describing PN’s plan to field candidates from Malaya-based parties as a direct violation of Sabah’s right to govern without external interference.

To address this, SAPP proposed that Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) contest all 73 constituencies, reflecting Sabahans’ preference for local governance and true federalism, while urging the GRS Supreme Council to clarify its alignment with Pakatan Harapan (PH) before the new year to provide voters with clear choices.
