MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte said that the ongoing issue at the Senate is a "reflection" of the leadership of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the current direction of the country.
In an interview in General Santos City on Wednesday after visiting the victims of the earthquake there, Duterte was asked on her opinion on the current row in the Senate where the chamber has two leaders, Senate President Alan Peter Cayetano and Acting Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian.
"Everyone recognizes what true leadership direction looks like; when there is no clear direction or vision, people naturally scatter and fend for themselves. That is exactly what we are witnessing right now—not just in the Senate, but across the entire nation." Duterte said in Filipino.
She urged the two factions to discuss their priorities and their work that is within the Constitution.
Duterte also did not answer whether she recognizes the Gatchalian bloc as the new majority, saying that the Supremer Court should answer instead who should be recognized as the new leader of the Senate.
Pressed on whether she is preparing for her upcoming Impeachment Trial, Duterte said that she left it to her defense lawyers and she would instead follow their advise and decisions.
The Vice President is in General Santos City to visit the families of the victims of the magnitude 7.8 temblor that struck the city and the nearby province of Sarangani.
Earlier in the day, she visited Cotabato City to participate in the distribution of RIICE (Relief for Indigents and Individuals in Crises and Emergencies) food bags and to launch the OVP 90th Anniversary Exhibit
