PRIME Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the letter from former Human Resources Minister Datuk Seri M Saravanan regarding the case he is facing will be referred to the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or relevant authorities for scrutiny.
Anwar said that he has not yet received the letter from Saravanan and will refer the matter to the relevant authorities as soon as he receives it.
"Yes, that is normal. I am waiting for the letter. When it reaches me, I will refer it to the MACC or relevant ministries for them to look into," he told reporters after performing Friday prayers today.
Saravanan had previously described the three charges of accepting bribes totaling RM1.097 million he faced as a wild accusation.
Anwar stressed that all parties must give space to the legal process to proceed, including the ongoing investigation and prosecution.
He said that no conclusions should be drawn before the matter is decided by the court.
"We must give space to the investigation to continue, as well as the prosecution and the process, and do not make any statements because the matter is not yet certain until the court decides," he said.
Saravanan was reported to have written a letter to Anwar requesting assistance in investigating and expediting the case, while stressing that he had not asked the Prime Minister to interfere in MACC matters.
"I am not asking the Prime Minister to control MACC. I am asking him to help investigate this case because I am not involved at all," he said.
Saravanan also requested that the case be expedited and tried as soon as possible because it involved him as an elected representative and MIC Deputy President. – August 28, 2026
