Sarawak Government to give RM100,000 to each family of victims in the Long Lellang FDS helicopter crash and cover their children’s education
KUCHING: The Sarawak State Government will channel a contribution of RM100,000 to each family of personnel involved in the Flying Doctor Service (FDS) helicopter crash in Long Lellang, yesterday.
In a statement on social media by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS), the state government announced it will also fully cover the education fees of the victims’ children who are still in school through the Sarawak Foundation.
“Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg agreed that the assistance be channelled as a sign of the Sarawak State Government’s concern to help ease the burden of the families and the next of kin involved.
“The full payment of the education fees also reflects appreciation for the sacrifices of the personnel who have provided services to the people, especially the community in the interior,” the statement said.
Yesterday, the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia (CAAM) announced that a BO-105 helicopter carrying five individuals including the pilot crashed near Long Lellang Short Take-Off and Landing Airport (STOLport), Ulu Baram, about 929 kilometres from Kuching.
According to CAAM, it received information about the incident from the Flight Information Service at 3.58 pm and the helicopter was conducting FDS flight operations.
