KUCHING: The Sarawak government is exploring various renewable energy (RE) technologies that can help the state achieve its target of producing 10 gigawatts (GW) of power by 2030, premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said.

He said at present, Sarawak had an installed capacity of 5.7GW of power through a mix of hydroelectric, coal and gas sources.

“Within these three years, we want to upgrade to 10GW. We will explore various technologies that can generate RE to provide this,” he said here.

Abang Johari said that right now, Sarawak is experimenting with floating solar energy generation technology at the Batang Ai hydroelectric dam.
