KUCHING, Aug 21 — Cloud seeding operations to tackle the haze will depend on favourable weather conditions, particularly the presence of suitable clouds, said Sarawak Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas.
The State Disaster Management Committee (SDMC) chairman said discussions had been held with the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma), which was ready to conduct the cloud seeding operation whenever weather conditions permit.
“The important thing is that there must be (suitable) clouds. If there are no (suitable) clouds, the salt (seeding agent) will simply fall,” he told reporters when met at the Borneo Animation and Games Festival (BAGFest) here today.
Uggah expressed hope that weather conditions would improve soon, allowing the cloud seeding operation to be carried out and help tackle the haze.
“We will continue to coordinate with Nadma to ensure that all preparations for the operation are at an optimal level,” he said, adding that water levels at several dams and reservoirs in Sarawak were now at alarming levels due to the hot weather.
Serian recorded a very unhealthy Air Pollutant Index (API) reading of 227 as of 2pm, while nine other areas in the state recorded unhealthy readings. — Bernama
