The Ministry of Health (KKM) has earmarked RM42.74 million for the repair and upgrading of health clinics in Sarawak this year. Deputy Premier and State Minister of Public Health, Housing, and Local Government, Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian, provided these details during the State Assembly sitting.

Out of the total allocation, RM11.74 million is specifically designated for upgrading, renovation, and repair works. Furthermore, RM19 million has been allocated under the Klinik Daif budget, and RM12 million under the rural clinic services budget.

Dr. Sim highlighted the concerning state of many health clinics in Sarawak, noting that 206 out of 271 clinics are currently in poor physical condition. This includes 175 Klinik Kesihatan, 20 Klinik Komuniti, nine Klinik Kesihatan Ibu dan Anak, and two Klinik Desa. The funding aims to address these deficiencies and improve healthcare services across the region.

In his address, Dr. Sim detailed the specific areas where the allocated funds would be utilized. The significant portion under the Klinik Daif budget is intended to revitalize and modernize some of the most dilapidated facilities, ensuring they meet current health and safety standards. The rural clinic services allocation will focus on enhancing the accessibility and quality of healthcare in more remote areas, providing essential medical services to underserved communities.

In addition to the clinic upgrades, Dr. Sim provided an update on the progress of the Petra Jaya Hospital, a major healthcare infrastructure project. As of April 25, the hospital's physical construction progress was reported at 71.24 percent. The project, initially delayed, is now rescheduled for completion in August 2025. This hospital is expected to significantly bolster the healthcare capacity in Sarawak, providing advanced medical facilities and services to the local population.

The comprehensive plan laid out by the Ministry of Health demonstrates a robust commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in Sarawak. By targeting both urban and rural clinics, the initiative aims to ensure that all residents have access to quality medical care. The allocation of substantial funds for these projects underscores the importance of healthcare in the region's development agenda.

Datuk Amar Dr. Sim Kui Hian's announcements reflect the ongoing efforts to address the healthcare needs of Sarawak's population. The government's proactive approach in allocating funds and setting clear timelines for project completion is a positive step towards enhancing the overall health and well-being of the community.

As these projects progress, the residents of Sarawak can anticipate significant improvements in their healthcare services, contributing to better health outcomes and quality of life across the state.
