Sarawak JBALB launches Schedule of Rates to standardise water project costs, enhance governance and prevent financial leakages

KUCHING: The Sarawak Rural Water Supply Department (JBALB) has launched a Schedule of Rates (SOR) to improve standards in state water supply projects.

Deputy Minister of Utility and Telecommunications Sarawak Datuk Liwan Lagang launched the document at an appreciation ceremony yesterday.

The SOR provides a standard reference for construction and installation works related to water supply.

It determines material, labour and equipment costs for preparing project estimates and tender prices.

“The Sarawak JBALB SOR acts as a pricing guide so that all parties—including consultants, contractors and technical officers—can apply uniform, transparent and standardised rates,” JBALB said.

The department stated this helps prevent financial leakages and facilitates smoother project assessment and approval.

JBALB emphasised the SOR aligns with the state government’s aspiration to promote good governance.

“The SOR is an important step in improving JBALB’s operations as a technical department,” it added.

The department said the launch reinforces its commitment to integrity-guided governance. – Bernama
