Sarawak projects record RM15.09b revenue, budgets RM10.1b for development in 2027

SARAWAK is projecting record revenue of RM15.091 billion in 2027, enabling the state to allocate RM10.098 billion for development spending while maintaining an estimated budget surplus of RM246 million.

Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the revenue projection was RM2.042 billion, or 16 per cent, higher than the RM13.049 billion estimated for 2026, reflecting the state’s financial resilience and long-term planning.

“This financial outlook for 2027 reflects resilience and long-term planning. Revenue is projected to reach RM15.091 billion, an increase of RM2.042 billion or 16 per cent compared with the 2026 estimate of RM13.049 billion.

“This achievement marks the highest revenue ever projected for the state,” he said when tabling the Sarawak Budget 2027 at the State Legislative Assembly sitting in Kuching today.

The budget provides RM14.845 billion for ordinary expenditure, comprising RM5.747 billion in operating expenditure and RM9.098 billion transferred to the Development Fund Account.

Development expenditure is estimated at RM10.098 billion, including RM1 billion carried forward from the 2026 allocation.

The development allocation represents an increase of RM826 million, or nine per cent, compared with the original estimate for the previous year.

Based on projected revenue of RM15.091 billion against ordinary expenditure of RM14.845 billion, Sarawak is expected to record a surplus of RM246 million in 2027.

The positive fiscal position is expected to support the state’s continued investment in infrastructure, economic growth and long-term development initiatives aimed at improving public well-being. - October 12, 2026
