Sarawak’s special grant negotiations with federal government continue as interim payment doubles to RM600 million annually for five years starting 2025

KUCHING: Negotiations between the Sarawak and federal governments on the special grant formula under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution remain ongoing.

Deputy Minister in the Sarawak Premier’s Department Datuk Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali confirmed considerable progress has been made through technical discussions and consultations.

“As part of these ongoing efforts, the Federal Government has agreed, as an interim measure, to increase the Special Grant from RM300 million in 2024 to RM600 million starting from 2025 for a period of five years,” she told the State Assembly.

Sharifah Hasidah expressed gratitude for the increased interim payment while emphasising Sarawak’s continued advocacy for a fair and transparent final formula.

“The Sarawak Government continues to advocate for a finalised formula that is fair, transparent and reflective of Sarawak’s contributions to the nation,” she stated.

She confirmed these efforts proceed through dialogues, consultations, and negotiations with the Federal Government.

The deputy minister was responding to Lidam Assan’s query about the status of special grant negotiations between both governments.

The special grant falls under Article 112D of the Federal Constitution, which governs financial arrangements between the federal government and Sarawak. – Bernama
