PETALING JAYA: The Election Commission (EC) has fixed Dec 12 as polling day for the 13th Sarawak State Election, with nomination day set for Nov 28 and early voting on Dec 8.

The EC announced the dates today following the dissolution of the 19th Sarawak State Legislative Assembly on Oct 26.

EC chairman Datuk Seri Ramlan Harun said the commission had received official notification from the Speaker of the Sarawak State Legislative Assembly regarding its dissolution before convening a special meeting to determine the election timetable.

The EC has also set Nov 6 for the issuance of the writ of election.

“Meanwhile, applications for postal voting for all categories, both domestic and overseas, have been open since Oct 26.

“The deadline for Category 1A applicants, comprising election workers, EC members and officers, police and military personnel, as well as media practitioners, is Nov 25.

“Applications for Category 1B, involving Malaysians residing overseas, and Category 1C, covering agencies and organisations, will close on Nov 20,” he said at a press conference today.

Ramlan added that the EC had appointed 82 returning officers, assisted by 305 assistant returning officers, to oversee the electoral process.

He said the commission would also establish 82 Election Campaign Enforcement Teams to monitor campaign activities throughout the official campaigning period.

“The electoral roll, updated as of Oct 25 and incorporating the September 2026 supplementary electoral roll, comprises 2,058,781 registered voters.

“Of the total, 2,034,373 are ordinary voters, while 13,575 are military personnel and their spouses, and 10,833 are police personnel, General Operations Force members and their spouses,” he said.

Ramlan said the EC had also decided to expand the pilot implementation of the Optical Character Recognition Voter Attendance (OCRVA) system to all voting channels at every polling centre across Sarawak’s 82 state constituencies to facilitate voter attendance management on polling day.
