Kota Kinabalu: The Sarawak Government has submitted its views on a payment formula to the State that takes into account the Federal Government's financial capacity, says Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
Speaking after the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63) Implementation Action Council Meeting at the Sabah International Convention Centre on Friday, the Prime Minister said he would continue discussions with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg ahead of Malaysia Day.
He noted that although Sarawak's claim was excluded from current constitutional provisions under discussion, the Federal and Sarawak finance ministries have been directed to negotiate the proposed formula.
Anwar said he hopes to announce an interim financial measure for Sarawak during the Malaysia Day celebrations in Kuching on Sept 16.
He stressed that MA63 must be treated as a national commitment and narrative to strengthen the federation rather than a special privilege or sectional demand.
