Sarawak to build its first Islamic International School

THE Sarawak government has approved plans to build the state's first Islamic International School near Kuching.

Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg said a state allocation of RM95 million has been approved for the project.

"This will be the first Sarawak Islamic International School.

"This school will offer a combination of subjects based on the Quran plus modern sciences subjects.

"It will offer boarding facilities for students as well.

"We want to teach our students not just subjects on Islam but also on modern sciences,” he said.

He said the aim is to produce Muslim youths who are well educated in their faith and also in modern scientific knowledge.

He said this at an Islamic seminar in Samarahan district.

Abang Johari said state cabinet ministers from all faiths supported this project.

The state authorities are now formulating the subjects to be taught in the Sarawak Islamic International School, he said.

Discussions with a Singapore Islamic education group and the Cambridge University in England are being held.

The site for the  international Islamic school has been proposed to be built in Petra Jaya town, located about 20kms outside Kuching city centre. – February 25, 2025
