PETALING JAYA: A Gabungan Parti Sarawak leader has called on Sarawakians to resist the normalisation of extremism in their culture following a recent petrol bomb attack at a KK Mart outlet in Kuching.
Lukanisman Awang Sauni, who is also the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy youth chief, said Sarawakians must not underestimate the gravity of the incident and must work together to prevent such extreme actions from becoming normalised.
“We have legislation in place to address such problems. Sarawak is a government that stands for peace, harmony, prosperity, and it celebrates diversity.
“It is my fervent hope that such incidents do not recur in Sarawak and also across Malaysia.

Meanwhile, PBB Supreme Council member Fazzrudin Abdul Rahman called for calm.
“I advise the public to avoid speculating on the matter and let the police conduct their investigation into the incident,” the Tupong assemblyman said.
“I would like to remind everyone that we should not take the law into our own hands and that we should respect the rule of law.”
The attack on the KK Mart outlet in Kuching marks the third such incident within a week. The incident was reported by a 25-year-old man who worked at the outlet in Jalan Satok.
The first two attacks were carried out against KK Mart outlets in Bidor, Perak, and Kuantan, Pahang, last week.
The petrol bomb thrown at the shop in Bidor on March 26 failed to explode, while the attack in Kuantan on March 29 set several items on fire, but the flames were promptly put out by KK Mart workers.
KK Mart has been mired in controversy since March 13 after socks with the word “Allah” were discovered at its Bandar Sunway outlet, sparking calls by Umno Youth for a nationwide boycott of the convenience store chain.
Police patrols
Meanwhile, Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said he would be sending a letter to Sentul police chief Ahmad Sukarno Zahari seeking patrols at the 12 KK Mart outlets in his constituency.
Lim said he would request for patrols, particularly from late night to early morning.
“(The petrol bomb attack at the KK Mart in Kuching) is the third incident to occur within a week, and is not only shocking to the country but also threatens the safety of all citizens,” he said in a statement.
