Saudi Arabia intercepted a drone attack on its massive Ras Tanura refinery, with no damage reported following an earlier strike that caused a fire.

RIYADH: Saudi Arabia’s defence ministry confirmed the interception of a drone attack targeting its massive Ras Tanura refinery on Wednesday.

The ministry stated in a post on X that initial estimates indicated the attack was carried out by a drone and did not result in any damage.

This incident follows an earlier attack on Monday that caused a fire and halted some operations at the same complex.

The Ras Tanura facility along the kingdom’s eastern Gulf coast is home to one of the largest refineries in the entire Middle East.

The complex has a capacity of 550,000 barrels per day and is a cornerstone of the kingdom’s energy sector.

Gulf states have accused Tehran of targeting energy installations across the region amid waves of Iranian barrages fired at its neighbours.

These attacks have occurred since the US and Israel launched a massive air campaign against Iran.
