A HELICOPTER belonging to Saudi oil giant Aramco crashed on Sunday (Jun 28) in Ras Tanura on Saudi Arabia's eastern coast on the Gulf, west of the Strait of Hormuz, killing 14 nationals, the state news agency reported, adding that the cause was unknown.
Investigations are underway into the cause of the crash, the Ministry of Energy confirmed, as it works with other authorities.
Aramco had resumed crude oil loadings on Friday at its Ras Tanura terminal in the Gulf after they were halted for nearly four months.
The Ras Tanura complex, on the kingdom's Gulf coast, houses one of the Middle East's largest refineries with a capacity of 550,000 barrels per day (bpd) and serves as a critical export terminal for crude.
Saudi Arabia did not indicate that the incident was in any way connected to a hostile attack. – June 29, 2026
