The Saudi-led coalition intercepted three Houthi ballistic missiles targeting Riyadh and Khamis Mushait amid renewed military operations in Yemen.
ISTANBUL: The Saudi-led coalition in Yemen said on Thursday that it intercepted and destroyed three ballistic missiles launched by the Houthis towards Riyadh and Khamis Mushait, Anadolu Ajansi reported.
Coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said on US social media platform X that two missiles were launched towards the Saudi capital, while another in the direction of Khamis Mushait in the southwestern Asir region.
Yemeni government forces launched a new offensive under Operation “Dawn of Yemen” this week with the aim of restoring state institutions and retaking territory held by the Houthis.
Yemen has been engulfed in conflict since the Houthis seized the capital Sanaa and several provinces in 2014, prompting a Saudi-led coalition to intervene in 2015 in support of the internationally recognised government. Fighting resumed in July after relative calm since the 2022 truce.
