Robbie Savage says David de Gea was underappreciated at Manchester United.

De Gea left United after 12 years this past summer and replaced by Andre Onana.

Speaking to Planet Sport Bet, United FA Youth Cup winner Savage said: "Being Manchester United's No.1, taking over from David de Gea, you have to hit the ground running.

"Manchester United wanted to play and play out from the back, but what David de Gea did, he kept the ball out of the net quite well and won the Golden Glove for Manchester United last season. Then Andre Onana comes in with high expectations after playing in the Champions League final, but they've conceded 14 goals this season and nine goals in their last three games, on top of that huge mistake against Bayern.

"People now, I don't think, give David de Gea enough credit for what he did when he was Manchester United's No.1. He won Player of the Season multiple times and won the Golden Glove too.

"You will of course get criticised being Manchester United's No.1. He came out, he'd faced the press, he blamed himself, which I admire. But it's not about him it's about the collective and the whole team.

"Manchester United could draw a game 0-0 and their centre forward could miss loads of chances, and they won't get criticised as much as a goalkeeper because that mistake is highlighted."
