SANDAKAN: Sawit Kinabalu Group contributed 300 boxes of daily essentials to victims of the Kampung Bahagia fire on Friday.

Its chairman, Datuk Hazem Mubarak Tun Musa, handed over the aid at Kampung Bahagia and the temporary relief centre at PPR Taman Batu Sapi to Sandakan Municipal Council representative Irman Tajuddin Edy.

An additional 2,000 food baskets were donated by NGO Harbour Gateway Sdn Bhd.

Hazem said the contribution, under the company’s disaster relief programme, aims to ease the burden of affected families. As a government-linked company, Sawit Kinabalu remains committed to its corporate social responsibility efforts. He added that drinking water had been supplied since the first day of the incident.

He also thanked Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, who visited the victims, with each affected household receiving RM2,000 in aid.

The fire, which broke out early Sunday, destroyed about 1,000 homes and affected around 9,000 people. Eight temporary relief centres have been set up, while some victims are sheltering in nearby mosques and community halls.
