Two individuals, a man and a woman, suspected of being mule account holders for fraudulent syndicates, have been apprehended by the police. The arrests, which occurred in Padang Serai and Sungai Petani, Kedah, have shed light on scams amounting to RM46,953 in losses, as reported by two victims.
According to Superintendent Kamarul Rizal Jenal, the Barat Daya district police chief, both suspects, aged 23, were taken into custody two days ago. The woman, allegedly involved in a syndicate offering fictitious online part-time employment, was found to have facilitated transactions totaling RM31,483. The victim, a 22-year-old student, transferred the money into a bank account under the belief that she would receive promised commissions. However, no such commissions were ever received.
In a similar vein, the male suspect was purportedly linked to a syndicate engaged in duping victims through nonexistent online investment schemes. The 25-year-old male technician, who fell victim to this scam, reported a loss of RM15,470. He had transferred the money into a designated bank account, expecting profits, only to realize later that he had been deceived.
Both suspects are currently detained for further investigation under Section 420 of the Penal Code, dealing with fraud-related offenses.
In a separate incident, the police conducted arrests involving 19 men, ranging in age from 24 to 62, for drug-related offenses. The arrests took place at various locations across the state, where syabu and heroin were seized. All individuals tested positive for drug use, with one individual being on the police's wanted list and 12 others having prior records related to crime and drug offenses.
The concerted efforts of law enforcement underscore the commitment to tackling various forms of criminal activity, ranging from financial scams to drug trafficking. These arrests serve as a reminder of the vigilance required to combat such illicit activities, safeguarding individuals and communities from harm.
