A BLOCK of the Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Baling complex in Kedah caught fire on Sunday morning, prompting a rapid response from firefighters after members of the public raised the alarm.
According to the Baling Fire and Rescue Station chief, Assistant Fire Superintendent Zulkhairi Mat Tanjil, the station received information about the blaze at 10.46am.
He said the incident first became known when concerned residents physically went to the fire station to report what they had seen.
"A team from BBP Baling immediately rushed to the scene to extinguish the fire," he said. “Operations were also supported by a water-tanker unit from BBP Pengkalan Hulu, Perak, and nearby Volunteer Firefighters (PBS)."
Fire crews arrived to find thick smoke pouring from the top floor of one of the school blocks, with flames already spreading rapidly. The school was empty at the time owing to the holiday, and no victims have been reported.
"Firefighting operations are still under way and initial information indicates no one was on site because of the off-day," Zulkhairi said. He added that further details regarding the cause and extent of the damage will be provided once the operation added. - November 21, 2025
